Jaipur, July 1 -- The acting director-general of police (DGP), Ravi Prakash Meharda, retired on Monday while the new DGP is likely to be declared next month, officerss aware of the development said on Monday. "If someone asks me about my next life, I must say that I want to be a police officer again. It's a whole world along with a family. All of us must pay the utmost honour to this uniform. The work of Rajasthan Police has been pretty well," Meharda said during his farewell speech at the Rajasthan Police Academy. Meharda was appointed as the acting DGP on June 10 when the former DGP Utkal Ranjan Sahoo took a voluntary retirement from the Indian Police Service and was appointed as the chairman of the Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC). Meharda, who is from Neem Ka Thana, joined the service in 1992, and consequently served as the SP in seven districts including Rajsamand, Jaisalmer, Jaipur, Ganganagar, Pali, Jodhpur, and Udaipur. He had earlier also remained the DIG of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in New Delhi and Jammu and Kashmir. and later as the IG of Rajasthan's Kota. Meharda also headed the SDRF, Crime Branch, State Human Rights Commission, and cyber crime unit of the Rajasthan Police as an ADG. "RPA is one of the best academies in India. Rajasthan Police has its own history. I am fortunate to retire after serving in the police service for 35 years. During my postings in Sri Ganganagar and Kota, I realised that there are ups and downs in life. Our life is like a bouquet, which has thorns as well as flowers. Whatever position I have held in the police, I have tried to help people," said Meharda. Addressing the young policemen in the service, he added: "Technology has advanced a lot. We have to update ourselves along with technology. If this is not done, then we will be left behind, Rajasthan Police has a history of meeting any challenge whenever it has come." A farewell parade by the trainee police officers was also observed by Meharda at the RPA. His senior colleagues, including CID ADG Dinesh MN, DG Intelligence Sanjay Agrawal, DG Civil Rights Malini Agrawal, DG Technical Services Anil Palliwal and DG Training Ashok Rathore were also present during the event. Meanwhile, the announcement of the new DGP may soon take place as the Union Public Service Commission has sent a panel of three IPS officers - Rajeev Sharma, Rajesh Nirwan, and Sanjay Agrawal - to the state government for the new DGP's appointment, said an official from the home department.
