Barmer/Jaisalmer, July 11 -- An Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday arrested a Jodhpur electricity body official for taking a bribe of Rs.30,000, an officer said. "The Special Unit of ACB in Jodhpur had received a complaint stating that the accused, Rawalsingh Bhati, a junior engineer (JEN) with the Jodhpur DISCOM posted in Nachna, was demanding a bribe of Rs.40,000 from the complainant in exchange for preparing an estimate and providing a new electricity connection for a rented tube well," said Smita Srivastava, additional director general of ACB. Following preliminary verification, the ACB laid a trap and caught the middleman, Rooparam, accepting Rs.30,000 as part of the bribe amount on behalf of Bhati, she further said. "Under the supervision of DIG Harendra Kumar Mahawar and leadership of Additional SP Om Prakash Chaudhary of the ACB Special Unit, a team led by Inspector Padampal Singh carried out the operation. The bribe was collected at the Jambheshwar Bhojanalaya (a roadside eatery) in Nachna, where Rooparam was caught with the amount," the officer said. Srivastava said that a case has been registered against both under the Prevention of Corruption Act, and further investigation is ongoing.
