Jaipur, Dec. 25 -- The Election Commission of India on Wednesday released a report saying that at least 829,000 voters in the state could not be linked to the previous SIR exercise in 2002 through familial records, and will now be required to submit documents to prove their eligibility as voters. According to the status report, Jaipur recorded the highest number of unmapped voters at 190,022, followed by Jodhpur with 56,763, Bikaner with 41,088, Jhunjhunu with 32,568, Udaipur with 27,621, and Ajmer with 25,003. Other districts with notable numbers of unmapped voters include Sikar (29,122), Ganganagar (30,058), Hanumangarh (26,509), Pali (22,784), Jalore (20,392), Sirohi (21,663), Bhilwara (19,373), Dholpur (19,022), and Khairthal-Tijara (18,892). Smaller districts such as Salumber reported as few as 633 unmapped voters, while Phalodi recorded 2,538 and Pratapgarh 3,143 unmapped electors. According to the data, all 41 districts of the state reported unmapped voters to varying degrees, underscoring the scale of the verification exercise currently underway. Chief electoral officer Naveen Mahajan said that the revision process achieved a high success rate. "At least 98.5% voters in the current electoral roll have been successfully linked to the 2002 SIR list, as their parents or grandparents could be traced during previous verification exercises," he said. Mahajan added that the election department will now issue formal notices to all unmapped electors. "These voters will be required to submit necessary documents such as birth certificates, Class X or Class XII school certificates, or permanent address proof to establish their eligibility as voters in India," he said. "Soon after the announcement of SIR in Bihar, the Election Department in Rajasthan had started a mapping process. In two months before the official exercise, we had already mapped these 70.55% (38.7 million) of the total 54.8 million electors- most of whom were listed in the 2002 SIR. It helped us to link most voters to the 2002 list. The final figure is now 98.5%." At least 4,184,819 people's names from the current voter lists were removed during the exercise. Of the total, at least, 875,398 (1.60%) were found to be deceased already, 2,480,417 (5.43%) had permanently shifted addresses, 457,502 (0.84%) were found absent during house-to-house surveys, 344,089 (0.63%) names were duplicated, and 27,485 (0.05%) names were removed due to other reasons....
