70% promises fulfilled in 2 yrs: CM; Oppn hits back
Jaipur, Dec. 13 -- Chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma on Friday claimed that over 70% of the promises from their election manifesto have already been fulfilled, on the completion of two years of the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Rajasthan government.
Addressing a press conference in Jaipur, Sharma said, "Our government has done justice to the public faith in us. In only two years, we have already fulfilled 70% of the promises that we made in our manifesto during the assembly election in 2023. Our government is an example of good governance and trust. 274 of total 352 promises have either already been fulfilled or are in the pipeline."
"With the inspiration of PM Narendra Modi, it is our responsibility to give you a proper list of works that we have done in two years. We came up with a slew of new policies to ease the lives of the people while many projects have also been implemented on the ground," he added.
"When the Congress government failed to fulfil all promises from their manifesto in total five years of tenure, we have proven that a government can take their state ahead in the country if they have willpower," Sharma took a potshot at the Congress.
According to the CM, Rajasthan has also achieved the tag of a best performing state across the country with a clear motive, excellence, and active mindset.
"Rajasthan ranked one in their performance in implementing 11 national projects, 2nd in five national projects, and third in nine national projects. Earlier, files used to get stuck in departments when we showed real work," Sharma said.
Slamming the Congress government over their delay to implement the long-stalled Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project (ERCP), the chief minister added: "Despite being aware of Rajasthan's extreme struggle for groundwater, they had only done politics and corruption with several key water-projects in the state. However, the BJP government has issued Rs.26,000 crores tender for ERCP that will benefit over 300,000 people from 17 districts."
He said the government is also working on the DPR of ambitious Yamuna water projects to resolve water issues and also swiftly advancing the works of Jal Jeevan Mission.
In terms of road development, Sharma said, that the government has constructed over 39,000 kilometres of roads at Rs.27,238 crores in two years across the state, another 8,557 kilometres have also been constructed to join the missing links in rural areas, while the government is also working on nine greenfields to improve economic development of the state.
Sharma further claimed that over 92,000 jobs have been disbursed in two years in various government departments while another 153,000 are in the pipeline. "While the Congress finished these young ones' future with several paper leak cases, we have conducted 296 exams successfully showing our commitment to the youth," he said.
To portray a better picture of the law and order situation in the state, the chief minister claimed that there is a 12% decrease in the crime rate compared to the last year of the Congress government.
"While 18% decline was seen in murder cases, 50% in looting, 11% in crimes against women, and 21% drop was recorded in SC-ST violence cases. Congress, engaged in appeasement politics, never cared about forceful conversion while our government brought a stringent law to curb it," said CM.
In the afternoon, Sharma also flagged a chariot from Jaipur to launch a 13-day long campaign by the BJP to reach out to the people in every constituency and take their suggestions to lay out an action plan.
Commenting on the development, Congress spokesperson, Swarnim Chaturvedi, said, "Two years of the BJP government is a lie. They have only misled the people. Despite their several promises, ERCP was denied a national project status by their own government in the Centre. Several school buildings have collapsed killing students. Farmers are protesting in Hanumangarh on whom their police are unleashing violent torture."
Leader of Opposition in the assembly, Tikaram Jully said, "Government has forgotten to keep the promise of lowering the price of petrol and diesel in line with neighbouring states. Youth are asking where is the calendar of 2.5 lakh jobs? Democracy has turned into bureaucracy under this government"....
