6 dead in rain-related incidents; monsoon to start from June 20
Jaipur, June 18 -- At least six people including five minors have been killed due to rain-related incidents in Rajasthan in the last 24 hours, officials said on Tuesday. The India Meteorological Department, meanwhile, has predicted that monsoon will enter the state on June 20.
Police said that at least five people in a four wheeler slipped off a cliff and fell into a canal on Tuesday. "The incident took place at around 7 am on Tuesday. The passengers, all belonging to the same family, were going to visit Salahsar from Hanumangarh. However, their car suddenly slipped due to heavy rainfall and they fell into a canal," Meenakshi Kumari, deputy superintendent of police of Hanumangarh City.
"Three of them - Ramandeep Kaur (22), Jaspreet Kaur (18), and Lakhveer Singh (30) - were rescued by the locals immediately. However, Kamaljeet Kaur (48) died while her husband, Gurdarshan Kaur, remains missing. Search is underway," she further said.
On Monday evening, three minors in Hanumangarh's Pilbanga were swept away in PBN canal when they went to bathe their cattle. "Three brothers - Krishna (11), Vakeel (12), Kishor (15) - went to bathe their cattle amid heavy rainfall. All of them were swept away in the canal. The locals were able to immediately recover them and rushed them to the hospital but they were declared dead," said a local police officer from Peelbanga.
In Pali, two minors died after falling into a pothole on Monday evening.
"Two brothers - Bhagwan Singh (4) and Lokesh Singh (5) - were going to buy some groceries from a nearby shop when they fell into a pothole which was waterlogged. The locals rescued them and rushed them to a hospital where they were declared dead," said a local official from Devgarh police station.
Meanwhile, the IMD predicted that monsoon will enter the state on June 20 from the southern-western part which will cause heavy rainfall in the area for the next one week.
"A lower pressure system has been formed over Gujarat and its neighbouring area which is coming towards Rajasthan and will cause heavy rainfall for the next few days as the beginning of monsoon in the state," IMD stated.
On Tuesday, IMD issued an orange alert for moderate to heavy rains in at least eight districts - Dausa, Karauli, Sikar, Jhunjhunu, Jaipur, Alwar, Jalore, and Sirohi. Meanwhile, a yellow alert was issued in 21 districts of the state - Tonk, Sawai Madhopur, Bundi, Baran, Kota, Jhalawar, Hanumangarh, Churu, Bharatpur, Dholpur, Nagaur, Ajmer, Bhilwara, Chittorgarh, Rajsamand, Pali, Udaipur, Dungarpur, Banswara, Barmer, and Jodhpur.
On Tuesday, the maximum rainfall was lodged in Sikar city with 7 cm followed by Srimadhopur, Ajmer City, Gangrar with 6 cm, Mangrol, Barmer City, and Malkhera with 5 cm.
The maximum temperature was recorded in Barmer with 39.2degC on Tuesday followed by 39degC in Churu, 38.7degC in Jaisalmer, 38.6degC in Dungarpur. "Due to the heavy rainfall, a 3 to 4degC drop is expected in the temperature in Rajasthan which will provide respite from the heatwave," said IMD....
