Jaipur, Sept. 11 -- Rajasthan will set up a 6,000 MW battery energy storage system (BESS) with the support of the Centre, Minister of State for Energy (Independent Charge) Hiralal Nagar informed the Assembly on Wednesday. The system will allow electricity generated from renewable sources during the day to be stored and supplied at night. Nagar said MoUs worth Rs.2,00,800 crore have been signed under joint ventures with central undertakings to develop 4,895 MW of conventional energy projects and 38,343 MW of renewable projects. He added that in line with the 2024-25 Budget , work orders have been issued for 500 MW/1,000 MWh battery storage with funding support from the Centre. These projects are expected to be completed by December 2026. Tenders for another 3,000 MW capacity have already been floated and are under process. Earlier, in a written reply, Nagar said that between January 2023 and July 2025, newly contracted units with discoms have added 4,457.98 MW of capacity....
