Bharatpur, Dec. 12 -- At least 500 deer are being gathered in Keoladeo National Park of Bharatpur to shift them to Mukundara Hills Tiger Reserve and Ramgarh Vishdhari Tiger Reserve in Bundi, officials said. Deputy Forest Conservator of Keoladeo National Park(KNP), Chetan Kumar BV, said, "We have received permission to shift 500 deer to Mukundara Hills Tiger Reserve and Ramgarh Vishdhari Tiger Reserve. 23 deer were already shifted last May. We have prepared a BOMA (enclosure and a non-invasive wildlife capture and translocate animals) in KNP." The deer will be shifted after gathering a sufficient number of them. BOMA is a non-chemical immobilisation technique which keeps animals stress-free. We have prepared enclosures to collect deer, he said, adding there are around 2,500 deer in KNP and that the deer are being shifted as their number is increasing due to a lack of natural predators. The KNP is spread over 29 square kilometers. The pre-augmentation centres are being built in Mukundara and Ramgarh Vishdhari reserves where deer will be kept. The deer will be the prey base for tigers after an increase in the number of deer. The park has around 336 varieties of birds where migratory birds from Europe, Asia, Siberia reach here in the first week of November to breed then return to their natives after the beginning of summer season in the first week of March. Thousands of foreign tourists come to visit the KNP annually. The park is famous for migratory birds where birds from foreign countries come here to breed. Migratory birds come here during monsoon season then return to their countries from here in the last week of March due to high temperature. The KNP was listed as a national park in 1982 then got the title of World Heritage Site from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 1985....
