Jaipur, May 26 -- At least four prisoners reached two hotels in Jaipur from the central jail on Saturday to meet their wives and girlfriends to collect packets of illicit drugs to supply in the jail, said officials. The investigating officer (IO) of the case, Banna Lal said, "Prima facie, the four prisoners had probably bribed the jail guards and also a doctor of the central jail. We have detained the four prisoners and also four jail guards and the doctor. Further investigation is underway." According to the police, the doctor Kailash Kumar issued a slip for five prisoners including the accused four to send them to the SMS Hospital for an allergy treatment on Saturday. "Upon the jail superintendent's approval, four jail guards were tasked to take them to the hospital in the morning. However, they bribed the guards at the hospital and left for two hotels in Jalupra and Airport area to meet their wives and girlfriends to receive smack packets," said Lal. Police said that the four- Rafeek, Bhanwar, Ankit, and Karan- are accused in different cases. While Rafeek was an accused of a murder case, Bhanwar was an accused of a rape case, Ankit and Karan was sentenced with one year imprisonment in 2024 for a theft case and a land dealing fraud case accordingly, said police. On Saturday, after reaching the hospital, Ankit's girlfriend came to meet him at the SMS Hospital only from where he along with Karan left for a hotel in Jalupura while Rafeek and Bhanwar went to meet their wives in another hotel in Airport area. "The entire conspiracy was pre-planned as their girlfriends and wives were found waiting for them in those hotels beforehand. Some smack packets were also recovered from Karan and Ankit which they took from their girlfriends to supply in the jail. It was also found that they have been in regular touch with their partners through phonecalls from inside the jail," said Banna Lal. However, soon after they left the jail, some of the jail officials received a tip-off about their plan from some internal sources. "A CST team of the commissioner was immediately activated that detained all the four prisoners along with the four jail guards from the hotels. Later we have also detained the doctor for questioning," officer added. A case was also lodged against them under sections 223 and 224 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), said police. "We are probing whether they all teamed up to run any drug smuggling gang inside the jail. We will also detain their wives and girlfriends for questioning if required," said the IO. Meanwhile, leader of opposition Tikaram Jully commented on this incident on X saying, "This collusion between the police and the criminals has made the law a joke."...
