4 dead, 3 injured as soil caves in: Police
Bharatpur, June 30 -- Four people died and three people sustained injuries when soil caved in during pipeline excavation work in Bharatpur on Sunday, police said.
According to police, the incident took place in Jangi Ka Nagla village during work for Chambal drinking water scheme. Some labourers were filling a 10-feet-deep trench dug to lay a pipeline when the soil caved in and the labourers got trapped underneath. Upon hearing the cries, other workers and project staff started rescue attempts, but the depth and heaviness of the soil made immediate efforts difficult, they said.
"Around seven villagers, including four women, were buried. Upon receiving information, police rushed to the spot. Seven villagers were rescued using earthmoving machines. They were rushed to district Raj Bahadur Memorial hospital. However, four people were declared brought dead," said Anil Doriya, Uchchain circle officer. The deceased were identified as Anukul Kumar (24), Vimla Devi (44), Yogesh Kumari (25) and Vinod Devi (55), residents of Uttu village under Fatehpur Sikri in Uttar Pradesh.
There were 12 labourers working at the site. Police added that the rescue operation was over....
