3 of a family sent to 5-day police remand for killing woman
Bharatpur, June 4 -- A local court on Tuesday sent three members of a family to five days of police remand for killing a 25-year-old woman for allegedly being in a relationship with her husband's cousin.
The incident took place in Agra of Uttar Pradesh on May 30 when the woman, Pooja Devi, originally from Basai Nawab under Kolari police station of Dholpur district, was found dead on a roadside in Agra district.
On the basis of a complaint filed by the Pooja's elder sister, their father, the husband of the deceased and his brother were arrested for killing the woman by strangulation.
Dholpur superintendent of police Sumit Meherada said that Pooja was married to Pawan Singh, resident of Kheragarh village of Agra district, in 2010.
"However, she fell in love with her cousin and refused to live with her husband. She was living here in her mother's house," he quoted the complaint as stating.
"On May 30, her father called her husband and her husband's brother from Agra. They strangled her and threw her body on a roadside in Agra district. Police recovered her body on May 31 after being informed by the Agra police.
The accused were identified as her father Komal Jatav (55), husband Pawan Jatav (30) and her husband's brother Jal Singh Jatav (32). They were booked under BNS Sections 103 (2) (mob lynching), 238 (A) (Disappearance of evidence), 145 and 61 (2) (criminal conspiracy).
"The accused were arrested on Monday and presented before the court on Tuesday where the court sent them to five days of police remand. They are yet to be interrogated," SP Sumit Meherada added....
