Jaipur, Aug. 3 -- At least three people were killed on Saturday while the schools in 11 districts were closed as heavy rainfall continued to wreak havoc across all the districts in Rajasthan. An elderly couple in Bharatpur were killed when their house collapsed, said officials. "The incident took place at Bharatpur's Bhusavar village on Saturday wee hours when the couple, Ram Meena (70) and his wife Jaggo Devi (60), were sleeping inside their house. Due to the torrential rain, their house collapsed and they got stuck under the debris," said an official from the district collectorate. She added: "Upon hearing the noise of the house collapse, their neighbours rushed to the spot and rescued the two from under the debris. They were also rushed to a nearby hospital where they were declared dead." In another incident, a four-year-old girl was killed when her house collapsed in Hanumangarh on Saturday afternoon. "The house was located in a low-land area in the district's Udasar village. She was sleeping inside when her parents were working just outside the house. The house suddenly collapsed, and she was killed after she got stuck under the debris," said an official from the local police station. Meanwhile,. IMD issued a heavy rain alert in Jaipur, Dausa, Alwar, Bharatpur, Dholpur, Karauli, Sawai Madhopur, Tonk, Bundi, Kota, Jhunjhunu, Churu, Sikar, Bhilwara, Sriganganagar, Hanumangarh, Chittorgarh, and Rajsamand for the next seven days. In an official statement, IMD chief Radhe Shyam Sharma, also said, "There is a possibility of decrease in rain activities in most parts of Jodhpur, Bikaner division of western Rajasthan in the next one week. There is a possibility of moderate to heavy rainfall at some places in some parts of Bharatpur, Jaipur division of north-eastern Rajasthan during August 3 to 6 and light to moderate shower at some places in the remaining parts of the state." On Saturday, the maximum 160mm rainfall has been recorded in Sriganganagar, followed by 110mm in Ganganagar City, 80mm in Hanumangarh's Peelbanga, and Sriganganagar's Suratgarh, 50mm in Sirohi's Mt Abu, 40mm in Anupgarh, and Bhilwara's Shahpura. In view of the constant rainfall that caused several damages across the state in the last few days, the schools in Jhalawar, Baran, Tonk, Deeg, Jaisalmer, Bikaner, Nagaur, Sriganganagar, Kotputli-Behror, Hanumangarh, and Kota have been closed on Saturday. Due to the torrential rain, many rivers and canals were also overflowing on Saturday that disconnected several major roads in the state including a Gujarat-bound highway in Dholpur. An SDRF team has also been deployed in Dholpur's Rajakhera area after the water from the Chambal river flooded in several villages in the district, said officials. The water level in dams across the state showed a steady rise in monsoon this year as over 76.15% of the total water storage of 693 dams in Rajasthan have been filled till Saturday after incessant heavy rains since Saturday which was only 41.88% in the same period (as of August 2) last year. Data showed that 261 dams in the state have been completely filled by Saturday while 299 have been partially filled and 133 are yet empty.
