Barmer, June 24 -- Three men died and three others were injured when the tempo they were travelling in collided with a speeding trailer on National Highway 68 near Gudamalani area in Barmer district on Sunday night, police said on Monday. "The incident took place at around 9:30pm. The deceased were catering workers who were returning to their villages after completing an assignment in Sanchore, when they were hit head-on by the trailer coming from the opposite direction," said Gudamalani police station-in-charge Devi Chand Dhaka. "The impact was so severe that the front portion of the tempo was completely crushed, while the rear section broke apart and was flung over 100 feet away. Passengers were thrown across the highway," he further said. He said that the deceased were identified as Rama Ram (19), son of Dana Ram, Lal Singh, son of Bhair Singh, and Dinesh Kumar (18), son of Chuna Ram. Rama Ram and Lal Singh both died on the spot while Kumar succumbed to his injuries during treatment at a hospital in Sanchore. The three injured people rushed to a private hospital in Sanchore, police said. One of them was later referred to Palanpur, Gujarat, for advanced care. The other two are currently undergoing treatment in Sanchore, they added. "The trailer driver fled the scene after the collision, said police. However, police apprehended him shortly after the incident," the officer said, adding that a case has been registered against the trailer driver, and further investigation is underway....
