3 children drown in rain-fed pond in Pali
Barmer/Pali, July 5 -- Bodies of three children who drowned in a rain-fed naadi (pond) in Pali district on Thursday were recovered on Friday, police officers aware of the matter said.
The deceased were identified as Khushi (13), Rahul Singh (13), and Jitendra Singh Rawat (12). All three children had taken a day off from school and had gone to the nearby forest to graze goats, where they decided to take bath in the rainwater-filled naadi.
Police said two other children present at the scene said that Khushi was the first to enter the water, but lost her balance as the area was slippery and fell into the deeper part of the pond. Seeing her struggle, Rahul and Jitendra jumped in to save her, but they too were pulled into the deep water.
Villagers rushed to rescue the children but by the time the children were pulled out of the water, they had already lost their lives, police said.
Local authorities, including Raipur SDM Ravi Prakash, tehsildar Ramkaran, and Bar police station in-charge Omprakash, reached the site with a team of divers and supervised the recovery operation. The bodies were taken to Kanuja hospital, where autopsy was conducted before handing them over to the families....
