Udaipur, Oct. 25 -- Twenty-nine people were arrested on Friday after villagers on Thursday staged a road blockade at a stretch of the Barwada highway in Udaipur district's Gogunda area, after a local man was killed after a speeding car hit his motorcycle and subsequently fled the scene, said police. The road blockade spiralled into violence after police arrived to control the scene, and led to three police personnel sustaining injuries, they added. Deputy superintendent of police Suryaveer Singh Rathore told reporters, "Cases have been registered against the accused under relevant sections of BNS for damaging government property and assaulting police personnel. Around 50 motorcycles and two cars were seized during the operation. Additional police forces have been deployed in the area to maintain law and order. The victim's postmortem examination was conducted late on Thursday night, and the body was handed over to family members on Friday morning. The situation is now under control". The deceased- Ambalal Gameti, 28, a resident of Jagdo ki Bhagal village, was on his way to work when a speeding car slammed into him from behind and dragged him across nearly 20 feet of road before the driver fled the scene. The driver remains unidentified and absconding, said police. They added that efforts to trace and apprehend the driver were currently still underway. As news of the accident spread, villagers and family members gathered on the highway, placing the body on the road and demanding action. When police tried to disperse the crowd, they came under a barrage of stones. In response, police fired tear gas shells to control the mob, officers in the know said. Several police officers, including ASI Bhanwar Singh from Sayra police station, constable Rakesh Meena, and woman constable Bhavana Dangi from Gogunda station, sustained injuries. They were treated and discharged from the hospital on Friday morning.
