Barmer/Jaisalmer, Aug. 17 -- A 27-year-old man in Jaisalmer district abducted his former fiancee with the help of an armed gang at around 2am on Friday, when the accused, along with 15 accomplices, stormed into the residence of the 23-year-old woman and kidnapped her, police said. According to police, the attackers arrived in two vehicles, vandalized the house, and assaulted Durga Kumari's family members when they resisted. The victim's father, Dan Singh, was also beaten during the assault. The kidnappers then fled the scene with the victim. Upon receiving the information, police immediately launched a search operation and enforced blockades across the district, but the victim remains untraced. Police said that Ganpat Singh, a resident of Ratredi village under Girab police station in Barmer district, was reportedly furious after his engagement to Durga Kumari was called off in 2022. The two had been engaged since 2017, but the alliance was broken five years later, which police believe served as the motive for the crime. Omkar Singh, a local resident, told police that around 15 armed men broke into the house in Amba Singh's hamlet near Myajlar at 2 AM. "They damaged property, assaulted the family, and forcibly took Durga away in two vehicles," he said. Myajlar SHO Sajjan Singh said, "Police teams rushed to the spot as soon as we received the information. Blockades have been set up, and CCTV footage is being reviewed to track the movement of the vehicles. Raids are also being carried out at possible hideouts, and the associates of the accused are being questioned." Meanwhile, residents of Myajlar village reached the city Kotwali to demand strict action. Police said a missing complaint has been registered and efforts are underway to rescue the woman and arrest the accused....
