23 cops questioned in custodial death of man
Jaipur, July 30 -- At least 23 police officials in Kishanganj police station of Baran district were questioned on Tuesday after a 28-year-old murder accused died in their custody on Monday, with his kin accusing the cops of brutally assaulting him to get a false confession forcefully, said officials.
According to the police superintendent, Abhishek Andasu, said, "The local DSP spoke to the victim, Lokesh Suman (28) till around midnight on Sunday, and he was in sound health. His condition suddenly deteriorated on Monday morning. He was rushed to the hospital, where he was declared dead. We are investigating the roles of the police officials."
He further added that "police arrested Suman on Saturday evening for the murder of Babulal Meena, whose body was found on the Ramgarh road last week. He was produced before court on Sunday which sent him to five-day police custody."
"However, he suddenly fell sick and was rushed to a nearby hospital by the cops on Monday night who declared him dead on arrival," said SP.
Following the development, the SP Andasu has questioned 23 police officials including the inspector of Kishanganj police station Vinod Kumar on Monday and set-up a committee.
Baran Collector Rahitashawa Singh Tomer, SP Abhishek Adansu, investigating officer Omendra Singh later reached the police station and took stock of the situation....
