Barmer/Jaisalmer, April 29 -- Two teenage cousin brothers lost their lives after drowning in a farm water tank (diggi) in Chundhi village, Jaisalmer district, police said. The deceased were identified as Surendra (17) and Virendra (16), police said. The incident occurred when the pair, along with cousins Mukesh and Ravi, went to their agricultural field, where a water storage diggi is located. Mukesh Beera, assistant sub inspector at Sadar police station, said, "All four boys entered the water to bathe. Surendra and Virendra then accidentally ventured into a deeper section, where mud and silt had created a marsh-like slush. They began sinking and could not escape." Mukesh and Ravi tried desperately to rescue their brothers, risking their own lives, but the mud's strong suction thwarted their efforts. In a panic, Mukesh ran to the village to alert family members. Villagers and relatives rushed to the scene. After strenuous efforts, they pulled Surendra out first and rushed him to Jawaharlal Nehru Hospital in Jaisalmer, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. Virendra, meanwhile, had fully submerged in the deep slush and vanished from sight. In a bid to recover him, villagers breached one side of the tank wall to lower the water level. Once the water receded, his body was found and taken to the hospital, where he was also pronounced dead. Civil defence teams arrived at the spot after the incident....
