2 killed due to electrocution in Balotra: Official
Barmer, May 20 -- Two people died and eight people were injured after a live electricity wire fell onto a tent during a mourning ceremony in Balotra district on Monday, police said.
Gopikishan Paliwal, tahsildar in Pachpadra, said that the incident took place at around 11.15 am in Umarlai village.
"During the incident, two people died and eight were injured. Ipon receiving information, police and administration officials reached the spot. The injured are currently undergoing treatment," he said.
He quoted Hari Singh, former Pradhan of Kalyanpur and a resident of Umarlai, as saying: "A condolence meeting was being held at the house of Lakharam Dewasi. More than 40 people in the tent when a high-tension overhead power line suddenly snapped and fell directly onto it."
"At the Government Nahata District Hospital in Balotra, doctors declared Amraram, a 70-year-old resident of Umarlai, and Harmalram (35), from Kanana village, dead on arrival," Paliwal said.
The injured were identified as Kohlaram (80), Junjharam (80), Sangaram (40), Hararam (65), Narayanraj, Talaram (80), Chenaram (55), and Budhsingh (40).
"The electricity department has been notified, and orders were issued for an investigation into the cause of the mishap," the tahsildar added....
