Barmer, July 20 -- Two people were arrested on Saturday with illegal narcotics and counterfeit Indian currency worth Rs.29,000 in a major crackdown in Balotra district of Rajasthan, police said. During preliminary interrogation, it was revealed that the accused used to obtain fake currency worth Rs.20,000 in exchange for Rs.10,000 in genuine notes, which they then used to purchase narcotics and earn profits. According to Balotra SP Amit Jain, the incident came to light during a routine patrol by Pachpadra SHO Amraram and his team near Dookiyon Ka Tala in Patodi village. The team spotted a suspicious Swift car that abruptly turned around after noticing the police vehicle. Finding the behaviour suspicious, the police pursued and stopped the car. The driver was identified as Dawood Khan alias Papu Khan, who was already wanted in a robbery case registered at Pachpadra police station. His aide identified himself as Safi Khan. Jain said that when asked why they turned the vehicle around, the duo failed to provide a satisfactory explanation.
