BIKANER, March 2 -- Hanumangarh Town police arrested two alleged members of a gang and recovered 11 pistols and 22 magazines from their possession on Saturday, in a major crackdown on illegal arms smuggling and organised crime. Inspector General of Police, Bikaner Range, Om Prakash, said, "Police received specific intelligence inputs that a large consignment of illegal weapons was being transported by road from Indore towards Punjab. Acting on the tip-off, a police team from Hanumangarh Town police station set up a checkpoint at Lakhuwali and began checking vehicles." "During the checking, a bus was stopped for inspection. Two men got down from the bus and tried to move towards the main canal area in a suspicious manner. Police personnel chased and detained them. On searching their bags, 11 pistols and 22 magazines were recovered. A case under the Arms Act has been registered and investigation is underway," he added. Station house officer of Hanumangarh town police station, Ashok Bishnoi, told HT that the arrested accused have been identified as Amandeep Singh alias Captain (30) and Pavandeep Singh alias Billa alias Sunny (25), both residents of Faridkot district in Punjab. During preliminary interrogation, it emerged that the accused are active members of the Devendra Bambiha gang which mostly operates in Punjab and its bordering districts of Rajasthan. Police records show that previous cases, including those related to illegal arms smuggling, assault and organised crime, are already registered against them. Bishnoi said that detailed interrogation is being conducted to ascertain the source of the weapons, identify the intended recipients and trace other members and associates of the gang involved in the supply chain....
