2 children killed after school van hits SUV and overturns in Itawah
Kota, Nov. 2 -- Two children died while 10 were injured after a school van hit an SUV and overturned in Kota's Itawah on Saturday morning, police said.
The deceased students were identified as Tanu Nagar (14) and Prisal Arya (9), said police.
Those injured included Paridhi Sharma (12), Bhumik Gawalera (13), Kiyan Arya (11), Ronit Nagar (11), Heemani Akodia (8), Prachi Nagar (10) and Sundhi Sharma (8), police added.
Itawah deputy superintendent of police, Subham Joshi, said, "The van carrying 12 students was heading towards the school. Near the Gota road, one of its tires burst, after which it collided with a Bolero and overturned."
The DSP added that passerbyes helped rescue the kids and sent them to the local hospital. The state education minister Madan Dilawar, and district collector Peeyush Samaria also reached the spot soon after the incident, he said.
Rajeev Datta, the officer on special duty under Kota MP and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, also reached the spot. "The incident was horrific. Injured children are undergoing treatment. Six of them were also referred to Kota in a serious condition. We have also directed the administration to immediately refer them to Jaipur and Delhi as per requirement," he told reporters at the spot, adding that a meeting was conducted with the RTO and district administration officials to address the ramifications of the incident.
"They were directed to check the permit and other measures of any government and private school bus running in Kota. Prima facie, the van was carrying 12 students while the capacity was only for seven children. Four students were also referred to Kota city in a critical condition," Datta said.
Meanwhile, Dilawar also said that a thorough probe will be launched into the case. "A probe will be launched in the case by the police and the district administration. Necessary action will be taken against the culprits," he said....
