17 camels found inside truck in Barmer, seized
Barmer, Jan. 7 -- Villagers intercepted a Punjab-registered truck carrying 17 camels reportedly under inhumane conditions in Barmer district, police said on Tuesday, adding the incident occurred late Monday in Khariya Rathodan.
According to initial information, the camels-both young and adult-were tightly packed inside the truck, with their mouths tied using ropes. Villagers grew suspicious after noticing the overloaded vehicle and stopped the truck. This led to an argument with the driver, following which the villagers alerted the police.
Acting on the information, head constable Vishnaram reached the spot along with a police team. Preliminary findings suggest that the animals were being transported illegally, possibly as part of a smuggling operation towards Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
Chauhtan DSP Jetharam said the truck carrying the camels has been seized and investigations are underway to ascertain the origin of the animals and the purpose of their transportation. He informed that Chauhtan SHO Lalit Kishore is conducting a detailed probe into the matter.
Police officers said further action will be taken based on the outcome of the investigation....
