12-yr-old school boy dies in road accident on i-day
Jodhpur, Aug. 17 -- A 12-year-old schoolboy was killed and three others were seriously injured after their bike was hit by a dumper truck near Nehru Colony in Ratanada, police said on Saturday.
The accident occurred early Friday when Lokendra Parihar, a resident of Nehru Colony, was on his way to attend a school function along with three friends.
All four children were riding on the same bike.
According to Airport Police Station station house officer Ramkrishna Tada, the bike skidded in front of a hotel, and a dumper laden with stones coming from behind ran over Lokendra.
Lokendra died on the spot with severe head injuries, while the others sustained injuries, one of them critically, and were rushed to hospital.
News of the accident sparked anger among family members and local residents, who staged a sit-in protest at Panchbatti Circle demanding strict action against the dumper driver, compensation, a fair investigation, and a government job for a family member.
The protest drew the attention of senior leaders including Rajya Sabha MP Rajendra Gehlot, city MLA Atul Bhansali, and BJP district president Rajendra Paliwal, who reached the spot and assured the family of support.
After several hours of negotiations, the administration accepted most of the demands. Officials announced an immediate relief of Rs.5 lakh, promised a contractual government job to one dependent, and assured maximum assistance to them from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund.
Following this assurance, the family members ended their protest.
Police said Lokendra was an eighth-grade student and the only son in the family of three siblings.
A first information report (FIR) has been registered under relevant sections of the BNS at the Airport Police Station against the dumper driver for causing death by negligent driving....
