11 from Raj among deceased in Ahmedabad plane crash
Udaipur/Jaipur, June 13 -- At least 11 people from Rajasthan including a former legislator's nephew, a doctor's family, a newly married woman, three young businessmen, and chefs- died on Thursday after a London-bound Air India flight carrying 242 passengers crashed near the Ahmedabad airport minutes after taking off, said officials.
Of the 11 deceased, four each were from Udaipur and Banswara, and another from Balotra and Bikaner.
Khushboo Rajpurohit (22), a resident of Balotra's Arara village, was going to visit her husband who is yet to be identified by the officials) in London for the first time since their marriage in January.
"Her husband is a medical researcher in London. He is based in Jodhpur's Luni. They got married in January only after which he left for London while Khushboo had been staying with her parents in Balotra. On Thursday, her father Madan Rajpurohit went to drop her at Ahmedabad airport where they also took a picture. Minutes after Madan left the airport and arrived in a local temple, the plane crashed and Madan got the news of her daughter's death," confirmed an official from the Balotra district collectorate.
A former BJP MLA Kishna Ram Nai's nephew Abhinav Parihar, who is a London-based businessman was killed in the flight, confirmed the dictrict officials.
Meanwhile, two siblings - Shubh Modi and Shagun Modi - children of a marble businessman in Udaipur were heading for a summer trip in London.
"They were residents of Udaipur city. On Thursday, they took the ill-fated flight to visit London when the tragedy happened. The two had been looking after their father's business after pursuing an MBA. After the incident, we paid a visit to the family. They are in shock. The administration assured them to take all care of whatever they will require," said the district collector Namit Mehta.
Two other people from Udaipur, who have been killed in the plane crash were identified as Vardi Lal Chand, a resident of district's Vallabhnagar and Prakash Minaria, a native of Udaipour's Rohida. "Both used to work as chefs in a local restaurant in London. They returned home on January 20 on a vacation and were all set to join back in London this week. Both their families also went to drop them in the airport," said collector Mehta.
Banswara-based doctor Komi Vyas, her husband Pradeep Joshi, and three minor children Pradyut Joshi, Nakul Joshi, and Miraya Joshi have also been killed in the crash on Thursday, said officials. "Pradeep was also a medical professional in London while Komi was a doctor in a private hospital in Udaipur. She had recently left the job and decided to stay with her husband in London. Pradeep returned to Banswara last week to pick his family. On Thursday they were heading for London and all died due to the accident," said an official from the district collector.
Reacting to the incident, chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma said, "The news of Air India flight crash in Ahmedabad, Gujarat is extremely sad and worrying. I pray to God for the well-being and safety of all the passengers and crew members in this unfortunate incident. I have also spoken to some of the families of the victim and directed the officials to provide them with necessary assistance."...
