11,000 bank employees join all-India strike
Jaipur, July 10 -- Bank services was disrupted in Rajasthan on Wednesday as around 11,000 bank employees across Rajasthan had joined the nation-wide strike called by the 10 central trade unions affiliated to the Left parties alleging that the central government is implementing economic reforms that undermine workers' rights.
Lokesh Mishra, the leader of Rajasthan Bank Employees Union, said, "Around 11,000 employees from several nationalised, private, abroad, and rural banks have joined the strike on Wednesday. This strike is a response to government's policies for workers. It was not limited only to the banking sector in Rajasthan but the employees from Income Tax department, Postal Services, and Anganwadi also joined us on Wednesday."
He further added that the employees at the banking sectors are demanding a pay-hike which has been stalled for more than three years and also a hike in the family pension. "Through this strike, demands are being made to stop privatisation and disinvestment of government institutions, adequate recruitment in all sectors, stopping outsourcing and contract system, recovery of NPA from corporates and removal of GST on insurance premium," said Mishra.
On Wednesday, the employees across districts also suspended their work and demonstrated in front of the banks....
