102 textile units get pollution notices
Jodhpur, Sept. 10 -- The Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board (RSPCB) has issued notices to 102 textile units in Jodhpur's Rajasthan State Industrial Development & Investment Corporation Limited (RIICO) industrial area for discharging untreated polluted water into the Jojari river, which has been affecting villages in the adjoining Balotra district. These units are linked to the Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP). So far, the board has surveyed 233 units, while inspections of other industrial units are still underway.
The information was shared by the state government in response to a question raised in the Rajasthan Assembly by Pachpadra MLA Arun Chaudhary. The legislator had asked about the outcome of water samples collected from Doli, Araba, and Kalyanpur villages of Balotra district. In reply, the government said that water samples from these areas have been collected and tested regularly since October 2024.
The government informed that to curb the release of untreated industrial effluents into the Jojari river, regular surveys are being carried out in coordination with the Jodhpur district administration. Four offending units have been ordered to close under Section 33A of the Water Act, 1974, and Section 31A of the Air Act, 1981. Additionally, three illegal units operating in Shobhawaton ki Dhani and Salawas areas of Jodhpur city have been demolished, while 17 bypass lines connected to the textile conduit line in the RIICO industrial area have been removed.
At a meeting of the District Monitoring Committee held on August 4, 2025, CETP textile operators were asked to submit a "rotation closure plan" to reduce the volume of polluted water. Regular monitoring of water quality in the RIICO drain and Jojari river is also being carried out.
