10,175 wards identified in delimitation process
Jaipur, Aug. 12 -- The directorate of local bodies has identified a total 10,175 wards across the urban bodies of Rajasthan as part of the new delimitation process.
An officer from the DLB said, "In the new proposal, a total 10,175 wards have been identified- of which Jaipur comprises the maximum 680 wards followed by 555 in Jhunjhunu, and 480 in Sikar."
Least number of 25 wards have been identified in the newly formed district Salumber followed by 60 in another freshly notified district Phalodi, and 70 in Jaisalmer.
According to the officials, a total of 91 municipality boards will be formed in Jaipur division after the upcoming urban bodies poll, 32 in Bharatpur, 28 in Kota, 52 in Ajmer, 28 in Udaipur, 41 in Jodhpur, and 37 in Bikaner.
Earlier, there were 305 municipality boards which increased to 309 as per the new delimitation proposal.
The delimitation process was started in February along with a proposal to merge all the bifurcated municipalities in Jaipur, Jodhpur, and Kota which had been divided in 2019 by the previous Congress government. DLB has also fixed a norm to conduct the survey and draw the new boundaries of the wards.
As per the order, the areas with below 15,000 population will have 20 wards.
Areas with a maximum population of 100,000 can have a total 55 wards, as per the concerned order.
Upto 60 wards will be given to 200,000 population areas, 65 wards to 350,000 population, 70 to 500,000 population, and 80 to 1,000,000 population.
A total of 150 wards can be given to the regions with 3,500,000 population.
The state election commissioner, Madhukar Gupta, said, "The proposal has been sent to the DLB. But they are yet to finalise and send it to us following which we will initiate the election process across the local bodies."
The recent delimitation process had meanwhile also sparked a political slugfest.
The opposition Congress accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of controlling the delimitation process and forming the ward boundaries in a particular way to gain political benefits in the elections.
It also accused the government of delaying the election process in the outgoing municipalities unconstitutionally in the name of One State One Election.
The UDH and DLB minister Jhavar Singh Kharra said, "The election will be conducted in December. The delimitation process is complete. Reviewing the ward-recognition process will be continued in August. Thereafter, we will start preparation of voter lists and decide the ward-wise reservation."...
