'Sometimes I feel Sumbul's fans are her real parents, I'm just a manager'
India, June 15 -- Actor Sumbul Touqeer's star is on the rise, and her dad, Touqeer Hasan Khan, beams each time he sees her fans showering her with love.
"I cannot put this experience into words," says Touqeer (55), adding, "I see fans come up to her and sometimes just look at her with so much admiration. Some of them even start crying, and it makes me feel that Sumbul has achieved a rare kind of success in life."
He also notes that some female fans tend to act maternal around Sumbul: "They message me saying, 'Why has Sumbul worn this?' or 'Did Sumbul eat properly?' Sometimes I feel that the fans are the real parents and I am just a manager. Although there is no complaint."
Sumbul, now 21, began her acting career as a 10-year-old, shooting to fame with shows such as Jodha Akbar and Ishaaron Ishaaron Mein. The actor tells us, "I was a dancer and had never really thought about acting. It was Papa who brought us to Mumbai in 2014 and encouraged me to explore this sphere."
The actor credits her father, a single parent, for moulding both her and elder sister Saniya into the people they are today: "He's been both mom and dad to me. His opinion matters to me more than anything."
A mechanical engineer, Touqeer moved from Katni (Madhya Pradesh) to the Capital, where he taught dance. It was here that he first noticed his daughter's talents. "Sumbul loved watching me teach. She was just four when I noticed her moving her feet whenever she heard music. That's when I knew she was going to grow up loving dance," he recalls.
Reflecting on her success now, he says, "I feel very happy and proud. Har parent ko acha lagta hai ki unka bacha successful ho."...
