'Only 60 out of 90K applicants got loans under Swarozgaar scheme'
Jaipur, May 7 -- Former chief minister Ashok Gehlot on Wednesday accused the BJP government in Rajasthan of misleading young people under the Mukhyamantri Swarozgaar Yojana, saying only 60 of about 90,000 applicants had received loans in the past six months.
"What kind of joke is being played on the youth of Rajasthan in the name of the Mukhyamantri Swarozgaar Yojana? At least 90,000 youth applied for it, but only 60 received loans so far! Even today, thousands of applications are being received by the government. They have been misled," Gehlot said on X.
He also said, "The promise of an interest-free loans of Rs 10 lakh remained only a headline. The reality on the ground is that not a single youth in 15 districts of Rajasthan received a single penny so far. The government should stop advertising and fix the accountability of banks. Otherwise this dream of 'employment' will remain just on papers."
Launched in January this year, the Rajasthan government's Mukhyamantri Yuva Swarozgaar Yojana aims to provide interest-free loans of up to Rs.10 lakh and other financial support to educated youth to start their own businesses. The scheme, launched in January 2026, is for youth aged 18 to 45, offering loans in the service, trade and manufacturing sectors to those from Class 8 to graduates.
However, an official confirmed the development, saying more than 90,000 applications had been received, of which only 60 were cleared by banks and the loans disbursed. "We have approved a total 99 applications so far and forwarded them to the banks to process their loans. Several applications are stuck at the verification stage. We are trying to pace the process while a meeting with the state bankers' committee was also held and they have been asked to clear the payments as soon as possible for the remaining ones whose applications were approved," she said.
Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition Tikaram Jully also said, "While lakhs of youth are being made holding lollipops in the name of a self employment scheme, such corruption is also going on in the name of nutritious food in Anganwadi centres that even animals are not eating it."
"Over 90,000 applications worth Rs.4,427 crore were received under the Youth Self-Employment Scheme, yet the BJP government's 'historic achievement' is that only 60 people were given loans! The truth about those who promise to 'make one lakh young people entrepreneurs' and offer lollipops to young people is that their promises are big, their posters are big, but no outcome was received," said Jully.
He said, "The country is not experiencing a government, but a spectacle of chaos. What could be more shameful and a more blatant example of failure in a failing double-engine government? The government makes tall claims about 'nutrition' and 'development,' but the ground reality is that the quality of nutritious food is so poor that even its own public representatives are exposing it."
BJP spokesperson, ram Lal Sharma, said, "Our government is committed to the youth. The applications are stuck due to some delay in the verification process. It will be cleared soon."...
