'Mistakes of ministers under lens for cabinet rejig after session ends'
India, Sept. 9 -- O
n July 26, 2024, Madan Rathore, who has also been elected as a Rajya Sabha MP from the state in February last year, was appointed as the president of the Bharatiya Janata Party's state unit succeeding Chandra Prakash Joshi. Since he took charge, his party, which is also the ruling party, has been facing challenges from both opposition leaders and insiders.
During the ongoing assembly session, Madan Rathore, in an interview to Senjuti Sengupta, talked about how the party is planning the upcoming cabinet reshuffle after the session ends. Edited excerpts.
Since I took charge, my target was to make the organisation work jointly with the government to fulfil all the needs of the people of Rajasthan and create a suitable environment for traditional culture and nationalism. All our campaigns and programmes are being run with the core idea of nationalism. We want everyone irrespective of the ruling party and opposition to work for the people keeping this idea in mind. The formation of our 52,400 booth-level executives and 1,132 Mandal executives have been done. New district presidents in 44 organisational districts have also been announced recently. At least seven constituencies went for by-polls during my tenure in the last one year- of which BJP bagged five. We are also winning 80% of the recent panchayat and urban body by-polls which prove how our organisation is becoming stronger.
The party had given responsibility to a few people based on their primary assessment during the cabinet formation after the election. But two years was enough for them to prove their capability. We have taken note of their performance and success rate as ministers. The CM will take the final decision but we are also making suggestions from the organisations. This process is underway and the reshuffle will be done by the CM after the assembly. We will sit with the CM and assess which ministers are more suitable for the cabinet. If anyone is not suitable for cabinet work, we will see what other responsibilities can be assigned to him. A stronger cabinet will deliver more to the people.
These are part of our ongoing assessment. There is a difference between a 'mistake' and a 'habit'. Those mistakes are under the lens for the cabinet reshuffle. We are assessing whether they have done it to embarrass the party or they do not even have the quality to do the job. It happens. We will look into it and take decisions.
There may be arguments and difference of opinion among the members of a party. But we do not have any factions. From the CM to every single minister and leader are in touch with the organisation. No matter how many differences we have, we start from scratch when we need to work for the people. It is Congress who keeps alleging BJP has some dissent. They must remember that Congress itself is the party whose CM calls the deputy CM a "nikamma" publicly. Everybody knows about the turf war between Ashok Gehlot and Sachin Pilot. Recently, we have also seen how Govind Singh Dotasra keeps mocking Tikaram Jully. We are not like them.
There might be different opinions, ideas, and styles by different people to do a particular job. But once it is decided, it is a collective decision. This is democracy and this is BJP.
Bhajan Lal Sharma is a seasoned leader who served as the general secretary of the party four consecutive times. He understands the pulse of the people of this state and is working according to their needs. Is it wrong to maintain a balance with the leadership? Is it wrong to work as per the top brass's expectation? It's not like leadership is taking all the decisions. He has his own conscience.
We had changed some executive leaders soon after I took over as a state president last year. For the rest, we have received recommendations from key leaders and sent it to the central leadership. A fresh executive will be announced soon.
We are very clear in our mind that no innocent candidate should be affected due to this incident. Many people will not even be able to appear for any government job exam in future due to the age-limit. Our government formed the SIT and handed over the investigation to the SOG only to ensure that fair candidates get justice. The government has also reviewed the HC's verdict. Our Parliamentary Affairs minister has a better understanding of the legal aspects and he must have made the statements after reviewing the order. He said that the court has made some directions on what aspects the investigation should be done. Everybody knows who has the authority to cancel an exam. No innocent should be punished even if a culprit gets saved. The probe will go on.
The Central government has already brought a bill for the amendment but it was sent to the JPC after opposition parties' objections. Once the JPC submits its report, this bill will be implemented as an act. In Rajasthan, we are trying to enhance acceptance from the people for this idea. We want people to understand and accept this fact that a lot of money will be saved if we conduct all the elections together. This policy will boost development which gets disrupted every time due to the model code of conduct ahead of the election. Earlier all the elections used to take place simultaneously. It is only because of Congress, who suspended or toppled many governments, this system was disrupted.
Congress doesn;t remember that Sonia Gandhi had become a voter in Rajasthan in 1980 when she got citizenship only in 1983. Who stole votes then? Electoral roll revision is a regular process by the Election Commission and our government believes that it should be done to add new young voters and remove the ones who died or got a double entry erroneously. Congress is deliberately labelling this roll revision process as vote theft. They are scared and therefore are trying to mislead people....
