Jaipur, Oct. 31 -- Sachin Mittal, a 1997 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, took charge as the new police commissioner of Jaipur city on October 25, replacing his predecessor Biju George Joseph. Mittal, who was serving as the additional director general (ADG) of the recruitment and promotion board since June 2023, had earlier served as the IG of Jodhpur range and also the Jodhpur police commissioner.
In an interview with Senjuti Sengupta, Mittal talked about his priorities, necessary action plans to tackle rising cyber crimes and drug smuggling cases in the city, and challenges ahead.
My priorities are the ones that are the core focus for the government. Cyber crime, drug smuggling and safety of women will always be my top priorities. I am currently meeting all my officers and also visiting the different zones. We will identify the lapses in every zone, their necessities and prepare a plan on how to support them with necessary resources accordingly. My target is also to strengthen the local police stations and their teams so that most of the complaints could be solved there.
Cyber criminals are changing their patterns every day making it more challenging for the police to fight against them. Police Headquarters has been sent a proposal for more resources worth Rs.350 Crore for a dedicated team under the commissionerate which will investigate the cyber crime cases.

Primarily, we are planning to appoint four inspectors, 20 sub inspectors, 20 jawans, and some head constables and constables in this team. Efforts are underway to identify our most capable staff.
The numbers of crimes against women have declined significantly. Our team has been more vigilant in the last few years. We will also support the Mahila Thanas with more resources. We are hopeful that the result will be more impactful.
