Jodhpur, June 26 -- Former chief minister Ashok Gehlot on Wednesday alleged that a serious conspiracy is underway within the BJP to remove chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma. Speaking to reporters during his five-day visit to Jodhpur, Gehlot claimed that BJP leaders from both Delhi and Rajasthan are involved in efforts to unseat the CM. "There is a major conspiracy going on to remove Bhajan Lal Sharma, but he does not realise it. We have been warning him repeatedly," he said. "If he remains under an illusion, it will eventually harm him. Leaders around him are only offering praise while the situation in the state is actually very serious," he further said. The senior Congress leader said his party is merely reflecting the public mood. "We are in the Opposition. The issues raised by the people or covered in the media are what we speak on. But the CM believes we are simply making political accusations, which is not the case," he said. The former CM further said: "A young leader was given a big opportunity - he became chief minister in his first term as an MLA. That is a significant moment. It should be preserved. What is the benefit of changing faces again and again?" Warning the CM about being misled by sycophants, Gehlot said, "The CM is surrounded by people who keep telling him the government is doing well. But the reality on the ground is different, and the public is suffering. If he speaks privately with grassroots workers at his residence, he'll know what the true situation is." Gehlot emphasised that his criticism of the government is based on feedback from the ground, not political motives. "The government is only one-and-a-half years old. What political criticism or charges are we supposed to make at this point? We are simply conveying the voice of the people," he said. Commenting on the BJP's recent push to revive the Emergency issue on its 50th anniversary, Gehlot accused the party of misleading people. "They are making baseless statements about the Emergency, but the public understands everything. The Congress paid a heavy price for those decisions, but after that, Indira Gandhi returned with a massive majority. The BJP is trying to gain from this issue again, but they will not succeed," he said. On the recent rape of a French woman tourist in Udaipur, Gehlot condemned the incident and raised questions about the state's law and order situation. "The condition of law and order is not satisfactory. Such an incident with a foreign woman is extremely alarming. The US has already issued advisories for six Indian states regarding women's safety. If things continue like this, I fear Rajasthan might soon be added to that list," the Congress leader warned. In response to Gehlot's remarks, BJP spokesperson, Laxmikant Bharadwaj said, "Gehlot may have remembered his own tenure and the infighting in his party over the CM's post. The BJP government is going well under Sharma's leadership and will continue carrying it forward. Such comment is not expected from a former CM."...
