'38.7mn voters don't need papers for SIR'
Jaipur, Oct. 29 -- Nearly 38.7 million voters in Rajasthan will not be required to provide any documents during the special intensive revision (SIR) process, chief election officer Naveen Mahajan said on Tuesday.
"Soon after the announcement of SIR in Bihar, the Election Department in Rajasthan had started a mapping process. In the last two months during this process, we have already mapped these 70.55% (38.7 million) of the total 54.8 million electors- most of whom have been enlisted during 2002 SIR," Mahajan said.
According to the internal data shared by the Election Commission, Rajasthan currently has 54.8 million electors- of whom over 38.7 million have already been physically mapped by the state election department.Around 27 million of these physically mapped voters had later also been finally confirmed through ECINET which contributes to 49.37%, as data showed.
At least 20.7 million of the ones whose mapping has been finalised through ECINET after physical verification are above 40 years of age. These voters were listed during the 2002 SIR and are still alive, the Election Department identified.
Similarly, the rest 6.3 million population whose mapping was confirmed by the ECINET are below 40 years of age who became voters after the 2002 SIR. However, they have been mapped as their parents were found in the 2002 list, as per the EC's data.
The department is yet to confirm the 11.7million voters whose mapping had already been done physically but the final process for the ECINET is pending.
"We are expecting that the final confirmation of the mapping of these 11.7 million will also be done before the formal house to house enumeration survey which is going to start from November 4. Hence, none of them have to provide any documents during the SIR" said Mahajan.
He further added that Rajasthan, in such mapping process, is now way ahead of many states where SIR will be done in phase 2- such as Gujarat where only 5.73% mapping has so far been done. "The first draft roll of the SIR will be published on December 9 and the final list will be published on February 7, 2026," he said....
