Gurugram, Nov. 9 -- A woman who was booked in a false rape case of a minor boy at Sector 65 police station with the motive of extortion, was arrested late Saturday night, police said. Investigators said Shivani Agarwal, the fourth accused in the case, had allegedly conspired with lawyer Geetika Chawla and paid her Rs.10 lakh to frame her husband due to marital disputes. Senior police officers said two previous fake rape cases, registered at the Women's Police Station (West) in Gurugram in May 2024 and at the Sector 8 police station in Faridabad in June 2024, will also be reopened for reinvestigation. Both cases involved men facing marital discord. The latest case at Sector 65 police station, registered on October 29, led to the exposure of a larger extortion racket. Police earlier arrested advocate Geetika Chawla, her husband Harsh Kumar Thakkar, and a balloon seller named Hanuman, who was allegedly used as the complainant in the false case filed in the name of his minor son. DCP (West) Hitesh Yadav said reinvestigation of the earlier cases is essential to "crack down on the entire network run by Chawla and Thakkar." Yadav added that the reinvestigation would determine how much money was extorted from the falsely accused men and the role of their wives and other suspects. "The couple was living together in an apartment in Sector 48 but had marital discord. Chawla, who initially represented the husband, later came in contact with the wife and connived with her to register the fake case using Hanuman," Yadav said. Police said most of the 25 SIM cards used by Chawla and Thakkar were issued on forged documents. During a 16-hour search at their Tata Primanti apartment in Sector 72, police seized Rs.1.14 crore cash, gold ornaments and coins worth Rs.2.85 crore, 10 phones, 11 SIM cards, laptops, passports and Aadhaar cards....
