UP Cabinet approves law to decriminalise certain offences
LUCKNOW, Oct. 30 -- Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday approved the Uttar Pradesh Sugamya Vyapar (ease of doing business) Amendment of Provisions) Ordinance 2025, removing nearly 99% of criminal clauses from 10 laws.
The move replaces imprisonment with monetary penalties and administrative actions to make business operations easier and protect workers' interests.
Under the new system, a first-time violation will invite a fine of up to Rs.75,000, while repeat offences may attract up to Rs.2 lakh.
The Uttar Pradesh cabinet has decided to introduce a screening test to curb alleged irregularities in direct recruitment to Group 'A' posts conducted through interviews.
Chief minister Yogi Adityanath approved the proposal on Tuesday through cabinet by circulation, clearing the Uttar Pradesh Public Service (Direct Recruitment through Screening Test) Rules, 2025.
Under the new rules, the final selection will be based on a combination of 75% marks from the screening test and 25% from the interview.
Candidates selected on this basis will be appointed to the respective posts.
Until now, the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) conducted direct recruitment for several Group 'A' category posts in various departments through interviews only....
