Two injured in shootout over political feud; 26 booked: cops
Faridabad, Jan. 6 -- Two men were injured after being shot during a group clash triggered by an old political rivalry at Deeg village in Faridabad late on Sunday night, police said on Monday.
The injured were identfied as, Jagdish Singh (Jaggi Jaat), 28, shot in the chest, abdomen, and arm, and Yogender Yadav, 39, with a leg injury, police said. Jagdish's condition is critical. Yogender is a notorious criminal with over 15 cases and a former associate of gangster Neeraj Faridpuria. He is the brother of former Deeg sarpanch Jai Singh Yadav, who was removed by the Faridabad deputy commissioner on High Court directions.
The clash began around 10.15pm near a liquor shop. Both sides called associates, escalating due to an existing rivalry. Jagdish had a long-standing feud with the former sarpanch for not supporting him in the 2022 panchayat election. During a clash with rods and sticks, Jagdish and Yogender were shot.
A senior police official said, "Even after his removal, tension kept shimmering between both sides, which resulted in a clash a month back. Several persons were injured from both sides, but no police complaint was ever filed."
A Deeg resident alleged, "Villagers suspect that Yoginder got shot in the leg accidentally by himself or his men... He and his men had opened fire on the rival group, in which Jagdish was critically injured."
Yashpal Yadav, public relations officer of Faridabad police, said, "Raids were going on to arrest a dozen others who were on the run." Three suspects were arrested. An FIR was registered by Jagdish's father against 13 individuals, and a counter FIR was filed against 26 individuals....
