Toll plaza staff run over after fight over Rs.170 in Faridabad
Gurugram, June 3 -- A toll plaza employee was critically injured after being allegedly run over by a car on the Eastern Peripheral Expressway near Chhainsa on Saturday, following a heated argument over a Rs.170 road tax, police said on Monday.
The victim, 56-year-old Surender Singh, suffered multiple fractures and is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Faridabad. His condition remains serious but stable, investigators said.
The incident took place between 4pm and 4.25pm when a Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire approached the Maujpur toll plaza en route to Delhi. "The operator asked the driver to pay Rs.170 as toll tax. However, the driver refused, claiming the amount was excessive since he was traveling from Palwal," said Inspector Suresh Chand, station house officer of Chhainsa police station.
Chand said the toll operator checked the system and found that the car, registered in Delhi, had entered the expressway from Charkhi Dadri, justifying the Rs.170 fee. As the argument escalated, other toll employees gathered. "When the driver tried to flee, Singh and others surrounded the car. The driver then entered the vehicle, pressed the accelerator, and mowed down Singh. Others jumped away in time," said Chand.
Singh was rushed to Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Government Medical College, then shifted to ESIC Hospital, where surgeries were conducted on his right leg from toe to hip.
Police said the man fled the scene, but has been traced and will be arrested soon. An FIR was registered under Sections 115 (voluntarily causing hurt)and 117(2) (voluntarily causing grievous hurt)of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita based on Singh's complaint....
