Gurugram, Dec. 18 -- Residents of Sector 99 have raised concerns over non-functional and flickering streetlights along a nearly one-kilometre stretch connecting Pareena Laxmi Apartments to Garhi village, saying commuting is unsafe, especially with the onset of fog. They also flagged broken, pothole-riddled roads posing risks to pedestrians and motorists. This road is a crucial link between Sector 99 societies and Garhi and Gopalpur villages, providing vital access to the Dwarka Expressway, locals added. "The condition of the road has deteriorated over the years... Commuting along this stretch has become extremely difficult due to potholes and waterlogged patches," said Pareveen Thakur, a Sector 99 resident. The lack of functional streetlights has worsened safety. "The streetlights work for just a day or two each week and then remain non-functional for the next 15 days," Thakur added, noting a recent theft. Residents warn fog reduces visibility further. "With fog setting in, it is difficult to imagine how commuters can navigate the road without working streetlights," said Santosh Singh of Pareena Laxmi Apartments. Residents said they have approached civic authorities repeatedly for two years. The stretch passes three government schools, often causing traffic congestion. In response to the complaints, Mandeep Dhankhar, executive engineer with the Municipal Corporation of Manesar (MCM), said, "Most of the streetlights are functional... We will deploy our team to ensure the streetlights are repaired." Regarding road repairs, Sushil Kumar, executive engineer at MCM, said, "We have inspected the road, formulated an estimate... Once we receive approval, the work will commence... the road is expected to be repaired by end of January."...
