Gurugram, Oct. 25 -- Residents of Sector 23A have criticised the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) for unattended garbage heaps in vacant plots, which remain uncleaned even after Diwali. Several residents said the growing piles emit a foul stench, reflecting the civic body's alleged negligence in maintaining hygiene. "The vacant plots have turned into huge dustbins. Since the garbage was not cleared, residents started dumping more," said Bhawani Shankar Tripathi, general secretary of the residents' welfare association. He added that people from unauthorised colonies and nearby villages also dump waste near the roads and vacant plots in the area. Rekha, a resident of Sector 23A, said, "Earlier, three to four workers cleaned the area regularly. Now, I see only one woman coming, and that too once every three days. A thick layer of dust has settled, and as a heart patient with a son who suffers from asthma, it has become very difficult for us." Ward 3 councillor Pradeep Padam said the area is usually cleaned daily, but many workers did not turn up during Diwali. "Sanitation and cleanliness will now be the priority," he added, acknowledging manpower shortages within MCG. Ward 4 councillor Rakesh Yadav noted that eight tractors are deployed daily to clear garbage across the ward, and residents of Carterpuri Village and Om Vihar rarely enter the area. While residents await prompt cleanup, addressing the shortage of manpower within the civic body remains equally crucial....
