Rape accused fugitive held in Delhi after 5yrs
new delhi, Jan. 12 -- A 34-year-old fugitive, wanted for five years in a rape and criminal intimidation case, was arrested from north Delhi's Nangloi on Saturday. The case dates to 2017, when a woman working at a Mohalla Clinic in Ranhola visited Sumit Mishra's shop for a form. Mishra noted her number, befriended her, and later allegedly spiked her water, raped her, and impregnated her. DCP (crime) Sanjeev Kumar Yadav stated, "Based on her complaint, a case was registered under sections 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC." Mishra also hid his previous marriage, married the victim, and threatened her with objectionable videos he shot and shared.
Declared a proclaimed offender in July 2021, Mishra evaded capture across states. In 2022, associates attacked a police team raiding his Sonepat hideout, leading to a separate case. After fleeing a raid in Haridwar on March 15, 2024, he was finally arrested in Delhi. The woman said in her complaint that Mishra had hidden his prior marriage and two children, and began threatening her....
