Gurugram, May 22 -- Union Minister Rao Inderjit Singh on Wednesday chaired a high-level meeting to review monsoon preparedness in Gurugram, directing civic officials to ensure permanent solutions to waterlogging and timely desilting of drains, especially along national highways and in densely populated areas. The meeting, attended by senior officials from the district administration and Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA), focused on key issues including the development of the Najafgarh drain, renovation of water reservoirs, and the establishment of a flood control room. "Gurugram, being the economic capital of Haryana, must avoid waterlogging issues that can affect the city's global image," Singh said. He directed that experienced officers guide their junior counterparts to improve coordination and stressed the need for pre-monsoon interventions and permanent engineering solutions. Earlier in the day, Singh inspected waterlogging-prone areas, including Ambience Mall and Jharsa Bandh in Sector 15 Part 2, and reviewed ongoing drainage arrangements. A government spokesperson said the minister "reviewed the status of monsoon-related preparations and gave orders to strengthen the city's drainage system and clean water channels." Deputy commissioner Ajay Kumar said a Rs.15.57 crore, 2.3km-long master drain from Hero Honda Chowk to Umang Bharadwaj Chowk, funded by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), is under construction.
