Gurugram, April 30 -- The district education department shut down Agrni School in Bhondsi on Monday for operating without official recognition, part of a broader crackdown on unrecognised private schools in the district. The action follows directives from the Directorate of Education, prompting fresh inspections across Gurugram. Agrni School was among 159 unrecognised institutions identified, and closure notices have been issued to all of them. "We found that Agrni School was functioning without recognition and had even admitted students for the new academic session," said Indu Boken, district education officer. "A team led by a government school principal conducted the inspection, and the school failed to produce any valid documents," Boken added. During the inspection, classes were ongoing with students from multiple grades, but staff could not provide registration or affiliation papers. A written statement acknowledging the lack of recognition was taken from the authorities before immediate closure orders were issued. HT's attempts to contact Agrni School did not elicit any response. Block education officer Randhir Singh said, "We have identified 159 private schools operating without recognition. Notices have been served, and if they fail to comply, legal action will follow."
