Pocso case fugitive arrested in Ayodhya
Rudrapur, Dec. 29 -- Gadarpur police have arrested a 26-year-old man wanted in a case registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, who was carrying a reward of Rs.10,000 on his arrest. The accused was apprehended from Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday after an extensive manhunt spanning several states, police said on Sunday.
Udham Singh Nagar senior superintendent of police (SSP) Manikant Mishra said the accused, identified as Vivek Das, a resident of Pipaliya village in Gadarpur, had been on the run since May. "Police were continuously monitoring his movements through surveillance, but he kept changing his locations, moving from Ayodhya to areas near the Bangladesh border. Eventually, he was traced and arrested from Ayodhya," Mishra said on Sunday.
As per the police, a complaint was lodged at Gadarpur police station on May 19 by the father of a minor girl, alleging that Vivek Das had kidnapped his daughter and raped her. Based on the complaint, police registered an FIR under sections of kidnapping, rape of BNS, along with relevant provisions of the POCSO Act, and launched an investigation.
Following the registration of the FIR, multiple police teams were constituted to track down the accused. "Modern surveillance techniques were used to trace his movements. When his location was initially found in Ayodhya, police teams reached there, but he fled to West Bengal and went into hiding near the Bangladesh border. When police tracked him there as well, he managed to escape," the SSP said. After pursuing the accused over a distance of nearly 2,000 km and sustained efforts by the police teams, Das was finally arrested on Saturday....
