Nine arrested for facilitating cheating in govt exams
Haldwani, Aug. 5 -- A total of nine people were arrested after police busted a gang allegedly involved in orchestrating large-scale cheating in government job recruitment examinations, officers aware of the matter said, adding that electronic devices used in the operation have been seized.
Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Prahlad Narayan Meena, said on Monday, "...a joint team...on August 3 raided room number 103 of Hotel Jalvik in the Transport Nagar area, where nine suspects were apprehended."
Police identified the accused as Sunil Kumar (30), Parvinder Kumar (35), Ramakant Sharma (29), Abhishek Kumar (20), Vishal Giri (29), Aftab Khan (42), Arun Kumar (33), Shiv Singh (32), and Jasveer Singh (38).
SSP Meena revealed that the accused had known each other for a long time and were all facing financial hardships. In an effort to make quick money, they hatched a plan to lease a computer library and use it as a base to facilitate the fraud. The group targeted competitive government exam aspirants, offering them guaranteed selection in exchange for Rs.4 lakh, he said.
The accused, the SSP said, planned to connect computers in the library to remote desktop applications like AnyDesk and Ammyy Admin with the help of an IT expert in their group. During exams, the accused would solve the paper remotely while the enrolled candidate sat in front of the system.
Meena said that in December last year,two accused-Parvinder and Sunil-leased the Gyankosh Digital Library in Manpur West, Haldwani. It was equipped with the necessary infrastructure to execute the plan.
During the raid, police recovered two laptops with Wi-Fi dongles and 11 mobile phones. An FIR has been registered under BNS sections 318(4) (cheating), 319(2) (cheating by personation), and 3(5) (common intention) and section 66(D) (impersonation through computer resources) of IT Act....
