New Year Eve to see heavy police watch
Gurugram, Dec. 30 -- More than 5,400 police personnel will be deployed across Gurugram on New Year's Eve to maintain law and order and ensure security at party venues, including hotels, restaurants, clubs, bars, and pubs.
Special programmes are scheduled at 22 major locations with enhanced security. Sandeep Turan, public relations officer of Gurugram Police, stated, "Police personnel in civil uniform will remain present at venues and around them to keep an eye on any suspicious movement or element."
Counter-assault teams, bomb squads, ambulances, and fire teams will be stationed at multiple points. At least 78 vehicle checkpoints are activated, including 10 interstate and 68 special checkpoints on key routes like the Delhi-Jaipur expressway. Zone-wise, the East zone will have 32 checkpoints, South zone 21, West zone eight, and Manesar zone seven.
For traffic management, Gurugram traffic police have designated 10 parking locations, particularly in Sector 29 and Cyber Hub. Rajesh Kumar Mohan, deputy commissioner of police (traffic), said, "Besides, a parking area in front of The Westin Hotel and two more at the front and rear of Kingdom of Dreams, Huda gymkhana parking... are the key locations." Parking on roads will not be allowed, with violators facing towing. "We will remain active at more than 10 locations to crack down against those drivers found involved in drink and drive violations, attracting a Rs.10,000 fine and licence suspension for three months," Mohan added.
Officials issued notices to all venues under Section 168 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita. ACP (DLF) Vikas Kaushik said, "The management will have to make arrangements... to ensure that such guests are sent home safely... Action will be taken against any such management if caught violating the directions."
Meanwhile, traffic police issued an advisory for a rally at Company Bagh on Tuesday, urging residents to use diverted routes only in emergencies. Key closures include the road from Aggarwal Dharamshala to Mor Chowk, with diversions via Old Judicial Complex Road....
