National capital region is among the richest birding spots in world
Gurugram, Jan. 15 -- One remarkable thing about Delhi-ncr is that it is among the top bird capitals of the world, second only to Nairobi vis-a-vis the number of bird species. Standing at 560 species on the last count, it is just shy of 580, the total number of species in the entire UK. The city also has a dedicated brood of bird-watchers, with whom I have had the pleasure of hanging out. As they totted up their bird lists, I gazed rapt in wonder and great ignorance, struggling to distinguish the barn swallow from the streak-throated swallow. I saw the tallest flying bird, the sarus cranes, in our fast-disappearing wetlands, and bulbuls and parakeets feast on guavas....
