Lucknow, June 22 -- The central narcotics agency raided a wholesale pharmaceutical distributor in Amroha on Thursday, seizing a substantial quantity of narcotics and injectable drugs, senior police officials confirmed on Saturday. Expired medicines were also recovered from the premises, although authorities have yet to disclose the total quantity and value of the seized materials. Officials said the raid took place at the warehouse of a distributor identified as Shubham Maheshwari, located in the Kotwali area of Amroha. Maheshwari was arrested and taken to Delhi for further investigation.During the operation, investigators also discovered incomplete records, which contributed to the distributor's arrest. The agency did not share information about the raid with local police or administrative authorities, except for the Kotwali police, who were informed for security purposes. This action follows a previous raid conducted by the agency in Hapur district, where narcotics were seized and a youth from Amroha-allegedly connected to a Delhi-based drug supply gang-was arrested. Meanwhile, on Tuesday, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted simultaneous searches at four locations in Uttar Pradesh, targeting a network accused of supplying tramadol, a tightly regulated drug, to addicts. According to agency officials, two locations were in Lucknow, and the others in Muzaffarnagar and Gonda. These searches were part of a broader operation spanning 15 locations across UP, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Maharashtra, aimed at dismantling a drug trafficking module.The crackdown has brought several pharmaceutical manufacturing companies in UP under scrutiny for their alleged involvement in siphoning off banned Tramadol tablets for illicit use in Punjab. Findings from the ED's Jalandhar unit prompted these investigations after earlier raids in the state.
