Rudrapur, July 4 -- Nainital municipality has withheld the decision to hike vehicle entry fee to enter Nainital from Rs.110 to Rs.500, officials aware of the matter said, adding that the old entry fee will remain in effect. The entry fee was hiked on the direction of the high court which expressed concern over crowd and excess vehicular traffic. Sarswati Khetwal, chairperson of municipality Nainital said on Thursday, "The decision of hiking entry fee was taken in the board meeting in April on the direction of the high court. Several social and trade organisations met and requested to reconsider the hike in entry fee in the interest of tourism. On their request we have postponed the new fee hike and the old entry fee will remain in effect." Expressing concern over traffic congestion in the hill station and nearby areas, the high court directed the Nainital municipality to consider the hike of entry and parking fee to discourage the huge vehicular traffic. On the court's direction, the municipality board took the decision to hike the entry and parking fee in the first week of April. Officials said that according to the decision taken in the board meeting, the entry fee was hiked from Rs.110 to Rs.300 for online payment and Rs.500 for offline payment. Parking fee was also hiked from Rs.130 to Rs.300 for 24-hours....
