Moradabad shopkeeper, worker held for pasting objectionable posters
Meerut, July 18 -- Amid the ongoing Kanwar Yatra, Moradabad Police have arrested a fast-food shop owner and his employee for allegedly putting up posters carrying the message "Hindu Rahe Savdhan" (Hindus, be alert) in a bid to target a business rival. The incident, which took place during a period of heightened religious activity and public movement, triggered immediate police action to prevent communal unrest.
The accused have been identified as Rajesh Bhurji (48), a resident of Mohalla Sagar Sarai in Moradabad, and Prince (19), a resident of Gujrela village in Rampur district. The duo allegedly pasted the controversial posters on electricity poles near Gulzari Mal Dharamshala Road in the Sadar Kotwali area of the city. Police said the motive was not communal in nature but rooted in a local business rivalry. Rajesh, upset with a neighbouring fast-food vendor, sought to malign the competitor by posting provocative messages suggesting that certain food outlets were disguising their identities and operating under changed names to mislead customers.
SP City Kumar Ranvijay Singh said, "The poster content was misleading and designed to exploit communal sentiments. Its timing-during the Kanwar Yatra-could have seriously disrupted public order and religious harmony."
Following the appearance of the posters, police launched an investigation and examined CCTV footage from the area. The evidence led to the identification and arrest of the two accused. "The arrested shopkeeper had a personal grudge and used religious overtones to hurt his rival's business. The act was deliberate and dangerous," added SP Singh.htc...
