Monsoon continues to wreak havoc in Rajasthan
Jaipur/ Bharatpur, Aug. 2 -- Continuous heavy rainfall in the state over the past few days has led to flood-like conditions in several districts, cutting off road access, damaging infrastructure and endangering lives, officials familiar with the situation said on Friday.
In Dholpur, authorities were forced to open six gates of the Parvati dam to ease water pressure after river water levels rose dangerously, leading to flooding in multiple low-lying areas, officials concerned said. In an area under the Maniya police station's jurisdiction, a truck carrying four people was swept away while attempting to cross a flooded culvert, they said, adding that two of the passengers were reported missing. Rescue operations were underway, said the officials.
The Chambal river is also flowing above the danger mark in the district, raising further concerns of floods, said officials. District collector Srinidhi BT is leading relief efforts, , along with SP Vikas Sangwan and Army officers, they added.
SDRF, police, and administration teams have been deployed in vulnerable villages, and hundreds of residents, including the elderly and pregnant women, have been shifted to safer locations with arrangements for food, water, and medical aid, added the officials concerned.
In Sawai Madhopur, agriculture minister Dr. Kirori Lal Meena's official vehicle got stuck in water during a ground inspection, officials said. The car was eventually pulled out with the help of a tractor, they added. Meanwhile, district collector Kana Ram urged citizens to remain indoors and strictly avoid crossing waterlogged roads, rivers, or culverts. Over 150 people were rescued safely in the district in the past 24 hours, with SDRF, NDRF, and Civil Defence teams on alert, said officials.
